Mellen Artisanal Woodworks

Every element of the Mellen mark was earned. The client came with a clear brief: something rooted in his Irish heritage, but unique and with a story.

In woodworking, the go-to symbols are well-worn — the tree rings, the saw, the chisel. And in Irish design, the Celtic knot has been done to death. He wanted something deeper and less expected. The solution was found in mythology: the stag references Cernunnos, the Celtic guardian of the forest. The antlers are oak branches — the sacred tree of Ireland, embodying strength and endurance. Hidden in the crown: the initials M and W, tying the symbol permanently to the brand. So ownable is the mark that it was also produced as a silver medallion that could be embedded directly into his furniture pieces, making every piece he builds instantly and permanently identifiable as a Mellen original. It's a logo built to be discovered, not just seen.

The identity rolls out across a full suite of applications — van wrap, branded apparel, and signage. The business card goes one step further: a real wood NFC tap card, sustainably sourced and laser-engraved, that shares everything with a single tap. For a woodworking company rooted in sustainability and endurance, even the card is built to last.
